My car has a fair amount of kit in it, start stop, a decent sound system and a dash cam that runs most of the time, and the battery has been struggling for a while. A mate swears by gel batteries and says they handle deep discharge better, but the guy at the shop said AGM is the way to go for modern cars and that gel is more for marine or off grid use. I read a Varta gel battery benefits and AGM comparison while trying to work out who to believe, and it did explain the difference in how they handle cycling, but I’d rather hear from people who’ve actually lived with one. Has anyone swapped to gel in a car with a lot of electronics and found it better, or is AGM genuinely the right call? And is gel really as fussy about charging as people say?
